Things you come across…

We walked into this gallery, which did not feel like a gallery but more like one’s studio as there were no signs outside indicating that this is an exhibition space – simply, an open door, inviting you in.

Darkness
A strong spotlight is creating a just as strong shadow of a bat-like shape on the gallery floor. Quite a funny juxtaposition as this bat-like shadow on the ground, which is surrounded by darkness, actually exists due to the light. The whole atmosphere starts to feel like a cave.
A panel-like artwork with light, bleeding around its edges and shinning through reveals a non recognisable language.
And then, in all this darkness, this striking pink colour hits you. It is not shy, it is crying out for your attention; this mass, blob of pink!
And copper. Copper seems to be the intricate part of the exhibition, the dainty fidgety looking stuff displaying the scientific side of things; the kind of object you are aware has been made for some unknown purpose. And often you do not care to find out this information as it seems irrelevant to what you are viewing; you are so intrigued by this device as an object. Such a beautiful contraption!

Reflections. One of the artworks is so glossy it actually reflects the rest of the exhibition creating a very interesting interaction between the elements and by doing so seems to bring together and unite the whole of the exhibition.

The Alcanist
‘An interpretation of the tensions and synergies between the emotional and the rational. The struggle to control, suppress, understand and accept this conflict explored through the juxtaposition of consciously designed geometry and structures against another unpredictable and uncontrollable entity.’
